All of our SquareHook staff are Red Iguana fans.  We have gone there for numerous work lunches, and we used to say how awesome it would be if we could re do their website!

There are so many people that know of Red Iguana’s stellar reputation, but when visitors come into Utah and they’re looking for some killer Mexican food, they have to find them online to locate them.  The former Red Iguana site wasn’t mobile friendly, and with such a huge following around the country they need to be accessible to the out-of-towners.

Plus, with all of the reviews and accolades they receive, they need a way to post that information immediately!

We reached out to the owners (Bill and Lucy) and they said they were looking for a fresh new concept to represent them and how busy their restaurant locations are.  We knew that visuals were going to be key for this website, because if any of you guys have been to one of their 3 locations, you know that they are colorful and eclectic!

So SquareHook got to work with visual elements that reflected what Red Iguana is known for: their yellow brick buildings, red roof accents, sticker collage doors, checkered plates, and neon lights.  We integrated some of these elements into their website, including social media and review stickers:

Diner’s Drive-Ins and Dives was a huge deal, which made the ever popular Red Iguana, even more popular!  We made sure imagery from Guy Fieri’s visit was a staple feature on their website, including the Food Network video.

We customized their About Us page.  They have a lot of really awesome historical pictures that we wanted to showcase. So we added a an iframe to create a mobile dialogue so people can click on one of the picture frames and a little image narration will pop up.

Many Red Iguana patrons know that there are several locations, but devoted followers many do not know of their newer locations.  So it was a big deal that we inform people through our banners. We put together 3 very different rotating banners for the Red Iguana site.

The first banner was focused on the original Red Iguana.  There is so much history there, and we wanted to do a collage representation.  Our very talented photographer captured their location at several different times of day to create a well rounded look

Red Iguana 2 has an awesome patio and has Lucy’s brother and former head chef, the late Ramon Cardenas Jr.’s car right outside.  It was important we capture that, and the surrounding iconic landmarks on the west side of Salt Lake.

The third banner, the Taste of Red Iguana is their newest addition to the Red Iguana family.  It is located in the City Creek Center Food Court.  We incorporated some recognizable geographical elements to help illustrate where Taste of Red Iguana was.  This banner definitely evolved as we worked with Bill and Lucy.

We are seriously so thrilled how the Red Iguana site turned out!  We know that their website visitors will have a great experience browsing their menu items, finding out more about their history, and being able to contact the Red Iguana Locations easily.  Stay tuned for new updates on their site because as their popularity grows, they will be editing and adding more content and photos.
